Individual applications: The Foundation's primary object is the advancement of further or higher education in the Dioceses of Bath & Wells, Bristol and Gloucester and in particular the enhancement of education in accordance with the doctrines of the Church of England. However, applications from individuals of other faiths, or none, are not excluded. Under the terms of the governing Scheme grants may be given for training of social, community, and youth workers and teachers; for training ministers of the Church of England (or of a church in communion therewith) and to assist with the study of music and the arts. Small 'one-off' awards are usually for assistance with fees and/or books.

Corporate applications: Consideration is usually restricted to bodies promoting projects for the educational training of others. Priority is given to imaginative new projects which will enhance the church's contribution to further or higher education.

Due to the small amounts of money available and the large number of applications, there are bound to be some disappointments. Low priority has to be given to service overseas, sabbaticals and long study leave and it is not normally possible to award grants for second or subsequent degrees or for studies in medicine, engineering, law, or veterinary science.

The Trustees will not make general or block grants or provide bursaries for other institutions to administer.

Closing dates for applications: 1 January, 1 June and 1 September each year.
