Examinations 2009GCSE and GCSE Short CourseResults in 2009 continued a ten year trend with an increase in the number of students taking the full subject, set against a three year decrease in the number of all GCSEs taken. 73.4% of students taking the full course Religious Studies achieved A-C grades. Religious Studies remains the most popular Short Course GCSE. 56.3% of all students took the subject in 2009 with 54.3% achieving A-C grades. A recent study conducted by the University of Durham, Relative Difficulty of Examinations in Different Subjects, found Religious Studies to be in the middle of the 'hard-soft' scale, similar to English Literature and History. A/AS LevelIn Religious Studies there is continued growth in student interest, numbers taking A Level rose by 4.7% and those taking AS Level increased by 5.5%. At A Level 81% achieved grades A-C with 67.9% achieving the same grade band at AS Level.
