Public Examinations in Religious StudiesExaminations 2011GCSE and GCSE Short CourseResults in 2011 continued a twelve year trend with an increase in the number of students taking the full course, up 17%, although numbers for the short course fell by 8.1%. 73.3% of students taking the full course Religious Studies achieved A*-C grades. Religious Studies remains the most popular Short Course GCSE with 54.6% achieving A*-C grades. A 2008 study conducted by the University of Durham, Relative Difficulty of Examinations in Different Subjects, found Religious Studies to be in the middle of the 'hard-soft' scale, similar to English Literature and History. A/AS LevelIn Religious Studies there is continued growth in student interest. For A Level there were 1,092 more candidates than the previous year and a remarkable 6,173 more for AS Level. At A Level 81.2% achieved grades A*-C with 6% achieving the new A* grade.
