Presentation and Training Activities
Barnabas RE Days
Barnabas RE days offer a full-day of workshops for Foundation, KS 1 and KS 2 learners. The day explores Christianity through storytelling, drama, dance and music - depending on the skills of the visiting professional team member. Working with themes such as 'Whose world?', 'Who am I?' and 'Who is my neighbour?', each Barnabas team member will bring Bible stories to life for primary children. For more information see www.barnabasinschools.org.uk. Each Barnabas RE Day can be organised to suit the school's timetable and the Key Stage or year groups with whom you would like the team member to work.
A typical day includes an optional full assembly-style presentation, which can be geared either towards the whole school or year and Key Stage groups as required, followed by individual class/year group performances and workshops.
INSET for teachers
INSET is designed to be used in conjunction with the QCA scheme of work requirements in RE for KS 1 and 2. Training programmes include tried and tested ideas for Collective Worship, approaching the Bible creatively in RE lessons, and exploring ways of communicating and understanding the story through drama, music, storytelling and art. INSET times can be arranged to suit school requirements. For full details see www.barnabasinschools.org.uk/pages/479s.htm
Spirituality in schools
Sessions designed to explore spirituality across the curriculum can also be arranged, with links into circle time, as well as addressing values and attitudes within the RE scheme of work.
Website resources
As well as details of the all of the above on the schools website, there is a growing bank of material for assemblies and RE lessons which can be downloaded, along with full details of Barnabas publications that support the RE curriculum.
