This RE Directory has new content and a revised format from the print version of 1999.
In Section 1, the Law and National Guidelines for RE, links have also been provided to information about the statutory position of RE in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Section 3, Local Education Authorities, contains the names and contact details for the RE Adviser and the SACRE clerk, together with links to LEA and NGfL/RE web sites, and RE Resource Centre directory entries. At the foot of each record are links to the relevant diocesan directory entries.
In Sections 4 - 6 a lot of the information is inter related. Clicking on the main entry line for each of the sections takes you to a list of sub section headings. For example Section 5 has entries organised by a number of options in addition to the A-Z index. There is also a search facility if the lists seem not to lead to the entry being sought. Links to entries of associated interest are at the foot of each entry page.
The 'Christian' section of Faith Communities (4) contains lists of the dioceses of the Church of England, the Church in Wales and the Roman Catholic Church.
In Section 6, RE Curriculum Resources, the ICT in RE sub-section contains titles with a brief description and these have been classified by Key Stage. There are also some reviews and a list of suppliers. The sub-sections on artefacts and print based materials lists publishers with RE titles in their catalogues or on their web sites rather than information about each title published.
Quickly finding an entry is the key to a useful directory; the search facilities included will help users locate information which is not found via sub-section headings. Equally important is maintaining up to date content; here revisions can be made as they become known rather than waiting for a full re-print as with a print version. Listing a publication or organisation is not an endorsement or recommendation, rather it is another way of bringing their existence to wider awareness. In compiling this directory we have relied heavily on organisations to provide or confirm information and for this reason, inevitably, there is some variation in the entries within any section.
The RE Directory will be updated annually at the end of the academic year and we will contact contributing organisations as part of this process. In the meantime, in order to keep the Directory as up to date as possible, please send any comments to me.
